ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Stephen Sisa is a veteran writer and former editor of the FREE WORLD REVIEW, a quarterly on foreign affairs. Born just before the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, he is the son of the Carpathian Basin with a mixed background that eminently qualifies him to write about his present subject. Although he has absorbed Hungarian culture, he started his career as editorial writer in Austrian newspapers. His incisive articles published after WW II in the German SÜDOSTSTIMME and other publications provided for prolonged debates and were subjects of discussions on West German radio stations, including SÜDDEUTSCHE RUNDFUNK.

In 1951 he settled in the U.S.A where years later he founded EXILED EUROPE, a magazine that created instant sensation among Danubian ethnic groups. This endeavor, however, was but a stepping stone to a more ambitious project: the founding of the FREE WORLD REVIEW which between 1956-1961 featured such internationally known contributors as Abba Eban, Habib Borguiba, Archduke Otto von Habsburg, Liddel Hart, Prince Norodom Sihanouk and David McCord Wright to name only a few.

Stephen Sisa's forte is quite, objective and yet colorful presentation, qualities that come through strongly in this book.
